New Whip

So, I'm thinking about getting a new car.  I went and test drove a 2006 Honda Civic EX last night.  It was super cool!  I'm really thinking about signing my life over to the dealership in a few weeks.  I don't know if you guys have seen the redesigned 2006 model, but it is frickin' way cool.  Plus I need a new car really bad because: a) my 1990 Geo Metro has 215,000 miles and is going to break any day now and b) I need to get a brand spankin' new frickin' whip to make me somewhat happy about my life.  :)  Mostly A, but a little B in all honesty.  So, I was wondering if any of you guys have heard anything bad/good about the 06 Civic.  I've mostly heard all good things so far, but the car has only been available for about a month now so I don't know how many bad things there could be yet.  Anyways, here are some pictures from last night.

I drove that white one in the background.  It was a 5 speed manual and compared to my 16 year old 3-cylinder, it was a frickin' race car.  I definitely fell for it.

When gas was really high last year i went and test drove an '05, and I loved it. it had suprisingly more power than I thought it would. I would say that it's probably one of the best cars on the market, and they have a super high resale value. I wouldn't worry too much about the new model, I'm willing to bet it's got the same powertrain as the earlier ones, which is tried and true. Don't skimp out by buying the econo package, spend the extra bucks for the dx or ex package. I believe the new cars have an available 10 yr/100k mile warranty too don't they? Go for it man, there's nothing better than getting a new(er) car.

Should I go Si?  :)  Its so tantalyzing!  Comes with GPS mounted in the center and satellite radio.  Plus its 197 hp which is super sweet.  I was going to get the 2 door LX (which is a step above the lowest model).  I get all goosebumpy just thinking about it.  :)

That Si is sweet, no doubt, but You should consider what the monthly payments will be. I'd probably go for the LX and get a bunch o' options. That's a sweet lookin car though either way.

I went out and test drove a few Hondas last month.  They are nice reliable cars.  I would go for the 4-door though after having a 2 door for the last 6 yrs I feel like you can always use the extra room.  Also they do offer a 10 yr/10,000 mile warrranty on all Honda products now so I say Go For It!!

Go for the EX or SI. The LX is borderline econo and will be worth less if you have resale in mind. If I were you I would go all out on your first new car and get the SI. 197 hp is very tasty. You cant go wronng with a Honda, they are built so darn well. If you get the SI you might be able to keep up with the beetle

cool car... i thought getting a loan was a problem? you should definitely get it.

I'm definitely going for the 2 door coupe cause its really just me using it and it just looks much sportier.  Thanks for the comments guys!  I think I'll have to talk with the sales guy about the differences in price to go from an LX to an EX.  It might be worth it considering what someone said about resale value.  It would be nice to have that built in GPS screen also.  Not that I need it to get to downtown Hartford, but it would sure be cool to have someone to talk to.  :)

The loan is apparently much easier to get through the dealership.  It will probably cost more because that whole percentage thing is higher, but they offer some crazy sounding finance plans.  You can opt for a 72 month payment plan!  Obviously, you will end up paying way more than the car is worth if you do that, but you can get that plan and just pay more than the minimum payment each month...and if you are strapped for cash for a few months, you can go down to the minimum payment, which would be pretty darn low.

is that a really expensive car?  i have no idea.

are you gonna put down a lot?
Cavutto on

Its about 17,000.  The person I talked to said that I don't have to put any money down at all, but I would like to at least put down a few thousand so I can save a few bucks on the payments.  The problem is that my current car is like a ticking time-bomb and I don't want it to crap out on me in the middle of the winter.  I think I'm going to shoot for the second week of February.

I also want to go to some different Honda dealerships and give them estimates from each other to see if they are willing to out-bid each other.

They'll give anyone a loan, turht be told. I had no credit when i got the Mustang, so I got a rate of 17% which was outrageous, but I didn't know any better. I ended up joining a credit union (which I highly recommend) and they lowered my rate to 5.25%, and I lowered the term from 72 months to 60. You can always refinance once your credit builds to a satisfactory level.

Yea I wouldnt worry about the loan too much. They were about to give me one on a house and I only have about 2 years of credit. Like Joe said if you have a high interest rate just refinance in time.

Oh man, get it!  I need a car so bad, but until I get a loan, I could live vicariously through you!

I'm pretty convinced that I'm going to get this car.

Did you check out the Hybrids??

Cavutto on

Nope.  I probably should because I'm all about efficiency.  Do you think they are more expensive?

natanism on
They are somewhere around 22K, I think. The EX with satellite is around 20K right?
Cavutto on
yeah, I'm leaning towards the LX, but Tim got me thinking the EX might be a better investment because of the resale value.  For 22,000, I'd rather go Si than Hybrid.
natanism on
Oh I would definately go for the car with the most gadgets, lord knows I love gadgets!!  Anywhoo, whatever one you get I hope you are happy.  Tim is right about the resale value, if you plan on trading in it get something that has the best resale value!!  The SI is fucking sweet, I test drove it...NICE!!

don't get hybrid, they seem like they are less expensive but I've heard to replace the hybrid battery is upwards of 6000 dollars and you have to do it every 4 years or so, I have an ex accord 2004, had no credit so I'm broke every month from it but I absolutely love it, a girlfriend of mine just got teh ex 06 civic, she's mildly obsessed and she hated her older civic...but I've heard nothing bad about them..I have a couple friends who work for honda dealerships, and they said that the SI is worth the wait, but the EX is really nice too
