Good Happy Fun Day

Hey.  It works!  Look at me, I'm blogging!  Ok, now look away.  Thanks Timbo for the fixing.  Now, whenever I'm having technical difficulties I'm just going to post them on Joe's page and that will fix everything.  :)  So so so so so...Friday?  Yes, Friday.  Hot damn, this has been a frickin' awesome week.  Best week ever?  You bet.  I'm friggin' psyched for this weekend like nobody's business.  Heading down to the Peabody museum to check out the Alien Earths exhibit about extraterrestrial life.  Oh snap!  Check out what I'm gonna get to do!

  • Compare the life cycle of our Sun to other stars.
  • Set planets in motion around a star and watch what happens.
  • Experiment with an infrared camera and ordinary objects.
  • Feel the difference in density between three known planets.
  • Explore the methods used to search for extrasolar planets.
  • Learn about the most abundant life form on Earth, and possibly elsewhere—microbes.
  • Smell the difference between various microbial colonies.
  • Listen to sounds from space and find out what signals from intelligent beings might sound like.

Oh yeah, that's right...I'm gonna come back here on Monday and satisfy your overwhelming curiosity about how microbial colonies smell.  I bet they smell fantastic!  But that's not all!  I also made plans to go to the Wadsworth Antheneum...except this adventure has a more subversive agenda.  I'm supposed to be going to go see "Picasso to Pop: Aspects of Modern Art" but I think Picasso is a talentless hack and modern art in general is pathetic.  My secret plan is to sneak off to the "Faith and Fortune: Five Centuries of European Masterworks" exhibit.  Shhhhhh.  :)

"Drawing upon the fine and decorative arts of the Renaissance through the Neo-Classical and Romantic eras, Faith and Fortune will showcase approximately 500 treasures: more than 125 paintings; exquisite objects made of bronze, silver, ivory, ceramics, and glass; and select sculptures."

It's gonna be awesome...and free.  Martin Luther King day is a Wadsworth open house and I have the day off.  I'm gonna get my learn-on free of charge, yo.

You're lucky you have an educational hobby. I think I'm going to a martini bar this weekend. Actually that's pretty fun.

Modern art sucks, except me and a couple of peeps went to the Salvador Dali exhibit a few years back. That was pretty effing awesome.

Yeah, Dali and a few others are cool.  I do like a lot of the Hudson River School stuff from the 19th century.  It just seems to me that a lot of modern day artists lack any real painting skills so they try to make up for it in 'interpretational' work.  Fuck that.  Learn how to paint a goddam portrait, not a bunch of squares with eyeballs all over the place and tell me it's a face.  Don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining.

Don't even get me going on post-modern Andy Warhol crap. Anyone who's anyone knows photography is the best medium for art these days. Ansel Adams, Annie Leibovitz, etc.
Cavutto on
Ansel Adams is dead, dude.  :  I still don't put photography on the same level as the Dutch masters.  They are lightyears away.  Warhol is particularly disgusting.  I dont' understand how everyone thinks of him as 'original'.  There might be a reason nobody friggin' did crap like that before....it's awful.  Don't even get me started on Pollock.  Holy mother of god.  Maybe I'll drink way too much tonight and make some 'artwork' out of half-digested macaroni and cheese.

I heart Ansel Adams.

Is Ness a Dutch master?
Cavutto on

Ness is definitelly a Dutch Master.  :)

Might be a bit awkward if you came on Monday since I'll be going with Jill.  I think the modern art exhibit is running for a while though, maybe some other time?

what ever happened to "bros before hos"?

...sorry...I just had to say it...

Lastexit29 on
i am a dutch master....supposedly i'm related to rembrandt.
TheJoeD on

Brian,

Did you see that episode of The Office?

Cavutto on

Actually, the primacy of bros over hos was challenged and finally repealed by the Ho Recognition Act of 2003.

Section 4, subsection (a) states that hos are to be recognized as being separate but equal to bros in all matters of social interraction except in instances where the aforementioned ho has entered into a legally binding contract to the party in question.

You better recognize!
