Think I'd Rather Go Fishing

Went and got my fishing license yesterday. My brother and I have determined that we are going to catch a fish that breaks the state record for something this year. We went lure shopping yesterday also. I think I could've spent hours looking at the 10 aisles of lures. The only ones that don't really interest me are the rubber worms. Who uses those? I'm sure some real fisherman out there is like, "Oh, you have to use purple rubber worms when you're trout fishing in a reservoir in the middle of the afternoon on a Thursday. Everybody knows that." You know what? Screw purple rubber worms. I want big, shiny, spinning lures with lots of hair all over the place and a treble hook the size of my fist. We're not going fishing for minnows...unless there is a state record for minnows.

Also, how far away from Crystal Lake do you live, Joe? Ever go fishing there? My brother and Joe R. went there last year and caught a bunch. I was thinking of heading over there at somepoint. Wanna go?

Dude, there's been a few state records set at Crystal Lake. It's not too far from my house. Sure man, I'll go fishing sometime. I think I've got a pole somewheres.

Supposed to be nice this weekend, but I think the water might still be a little too cold for fishing. Got any plans? (cold water be damned)
TheJoeD on
Kinda busy this weekend...maybe next weekend? Or we could play hookie one day. I'd have to buy an authentic fisherman's vest.

Sounds good (next weekend maybe). My brother is going to be in Florida this weekend so I'm trying to figure out something to do that doesn't involve sitting home alone for 60 hours watching baseball and reading about salt.

I was thinking about getting a new puzzle, but that will probably involve sitting home alone. They have some sweet ones at Wal-Mart with all these historical scenes on them. How friggin' dorky is that though...ugh.

Hey dude, it's Cinco de Mayo this weekend, and there'll be a party up in Massachusetts. You're more than welcome to come on up.
Cavutto on
Sign me up...tentatively of course.

I'll pencil you in very lightly.

Hey Ryan is your bro coming down for the Air & Sea show again this year? I've got mad peeps coming into town, it's going to be a really good time.

If I see a guy humping a pole or some strange object I can pretty much bet it will be him.

Oh and Rock ON with the fishing, I love to fish. Remember the shark?
Cavutto on
Yep, Air and Sea show again. He goes every year.

Dude, I totally remember the shark. If I recall correctly, it didn't go over so well. :)

Hey, just a quick question, how far from Wallingford are you?
Cavutto on
Probably about 20 minutes. It's right down the Pike if I'm not mistaken. Been there before?

I'm taking my oldest grandson fishing in a week or so. He's 5 & this will be his first time ever to go fishing. I can hardly wait!

I have alot of family in Ct.When I was younger, I spent every summer there. I lived there when I was 19, but then I got home sick........biggest mistake of my life coming back here! I loved it there.

Sounds like fun, Randy! What do you guys fish for?

I friggin' love CT. Lots of people will disagree with me on that sentiment, but I really like it here.

Sorry about the Ct. talk, back to fishing, I have a 3 year old daughter, and we wanted to take her fishing, boring (for me). So behind my house is a creek, we put up a net and bought a ton of trout to stock it. On the first day of fishing we invited all of our friends and thier little ones out to fish, the kids had a blast (the parents did too). It was a wonderful day, we had a cookout and every kid cought at least one trout. My daughter goes out back every weekend to go fishing, she just caught one on sunday. This is a very good idea for young kids, I hated fishing when I was younger, its not fun unless you catch something!!
Cavutto on
Wow, that's really cool! Good idea with the net too...I totally would've forgotten about that and they all would've swam away.

It's not fun unless you catch something or at least get a good buzz on trying. :)

Oh, trust me, the creek wasn't the only thing I stocked!! And fishing is fun to do when your camping or something like we did, but just to go out somewhere and fish mearly for sport, I just find boring. Maybe its just the fishermen that I've gone with that make it boring. Whoo knows, who cares, right?!

I think you all should make an impromptu trip here for Cinco de Mayo. I had a promotional job in a bar handing out Cuervo flyers, very important literature :), but it got canceled due to the place I live being too Podunk. And then we can go fishing after the hangovers are over.

Since this will be a new experience for him, we will probably just fish for sun fish. I thought about taking him to a catfish farm but that's not real fishing. I'm taking the video cam too. We will fish from the bank in an area that is very safe. He is very active and it will be a challenge to get him to be still for long. Later on we will fish for crappie. That's my favorite to eat. Black bass and sand bass are fun to catch.

I took both of my daughters fishing when they were young. They are both married now but they still ask me to take them fishing for time to time.

Fishing for crappie always reminds me of a magazine that I saw at Borders once. 'Crappie World'.
